MESSAGE FROM THE ESTATE MANAGER
December’s arrival always seems to take us by surprise – in January it feels like it’s an eternity away. Then suddenly the retailers are packing out mince pies and playing Mariah on repeat.
As we prepare to enjoy time away with our loved ones and take some time to recharge and reflect on the year that has been and what we hope to accomplish in the next year, let us also remember how fortunate we are. Our estate allows us to enjoy a quality of life unlike anywhere else – in the words of a family that joined our community this year, “I have never experienced the freedom to live that I enjoy here”. This peace of mind requires community support and ongoing vigilance by residents, guests, contractors alike, and our security team, which remains highly vigilant at this time of year.
I am consistently reminded and amazed at the generosity of our community, and the enquiries about the Festive Collection for the Security and landscaping teams before we even announce their official start are a pleasant reminder of how special this community is. If you would like to contribute to the Festive Collection which will be given to these staff members before Christmas, there is still time. Please make your payment using the HOA bank details provided on your levy statement and email your proof of payment (POP) to francois@fwg.co.za. Remember to include ‘Festive’ and your stand number as the payment reference to ensure the funds are allocated to the correct account.
November saw our standout events, particularly the Trick or Treat, an annual event that gets the children positively giddy with excitement! This year’s Trick or Treat saw Phase 2 homes hosting, with many Phase 1 residents contributing to a Sweetie Spot, the Sugar Stockpile or even hosting a Sweetie Table in the parks. The HOA’s Wonka Oompa Loompas loved handing out sweets to the estate children and chatting with residents! Thank you to all who contributed as we continue to find ways to improve our signature events.
The Festive Market is the unofficial start of the festive season at Fourways Gardens and despite early morning rains threatening its success, our Market was once again very successful, and numerous stall holders have taken the time to write and express their thanks to the Fourways Gardens community for their reliable support of our very own Festive Market. Our Children’s Christmas Party and the Festive Concert rounded off the festive season preparations. You can read more about the Children’s Christmas Party and perhaps even spot a photo of your little ones in this month’s edition.
By the time you’re reading this, our Traffic Circle display will be up and will be the envy of our surrounding estates. The HOA team will also keep working to promote inclusivity and recognition of the varied cultures in our community – from the Festival of Lights to notable celebrations among our Jewish and Muslim residents, not to mention other cultures who contribute to the rich community life at Fourways Gardens. Our 2025 calendar is in planning, and we invite suggestions of events or celebrations that would benefit the community.
From the middle of this month, the Builder’s Holiday will be in force, and no building work or construction will be permitted in the estate until the 6th of January 2025. The HOA will send out communications relating to this and other holiday matters. Let’s keep good neighbourliness and consideration at the front of our party plans and by doing so, encourage a harmonious time to enjoy our neighbourhood.
I would like to take a moment to express my deepest appreciation to each of the HOA Staff Team. This year has brought its share of challenges, yet they’ve tackled them with resilience and a can-do spirit. Whether managing unexpected projects, weathering tight deadlines, or simply supporting one another, these individuals have shown what it means to be a true team. Managing our community wouldn’t be possible without their dedication, hard work, and passion. From ensuring the estate and grounds are beautifully maintained, to addressing resident concerns with care and professionalism, the team go above and beyond. Their efforts make a real difference and contribute to this community’s sense of pride and belonging. THANK YOU, Team – Hazel, Margaret, Gladys, Eugene, Katlego, Elmine, Francois, Rudy, Oscar, Eddie, Fortune, Sam, Steve, Tebogo, Mlungisi and William.
In addition, but certainly no less, I am sincerely grateful to the Board of Directors for their steadfast efforts and continued support.
I wish all our residents a relaxing and meaningful time this December, and safe travels – whether you are going away, or travelling to visit family and friends. We look forward to welcoming you home, and we will return in 2025 rested, energised, and ready to make sure Fourways Gardens remains “Your Secure Sanctuary in the City”
Sincerely,
Charlene Marlin
